Good Morning! Think very far back to last Thursday and our field trip! Imagine that this morning an announcement has been made that the Chicago History Museum will be closed until further notice because of budget cuts. IN COMPLETE sentences and no less than 4 sentences--explain what the importance of this museum is. Is it worth the money to keep it open? Why or why not?
The importance of this museum is,because it's fun to learn about Chicago. Also tourist come to see the history museum and look at the models. I think it is worth the money to keep it open, because there is important artifacts in the museum. Also in the present time I don't know if the museum will close, but in the future it will have to close, because of budget cuts and the lack to get money in order to keep the museum open.
ReplyDeleteTed--So we have established that it is something tourists enjoy. But what about it made it important for residents?

ReplyDeleteI think that a lot of things are important at the Chicago History Museum. If they close it down, people won't be able to visit and see how Chicago was really back then. The people of Chicago won't be able to go visit and be able to see some artifacts from back then, and see all the things people used back in the days. I think it wouldn't be fair if they closed the museum down, cause of budget cuts because then people won't really know about their city and how it was back then.
ReplyDeleteMs.Hughes- I have to say about the residents that some enjoy going to the museum ,if not all. For one, I like going to the museum, and i haven't been there in a while that i just noticed they have a new exhibit now.
ReplyDeleteI think it is worth the money. Because if someone want's to something about Chicago they could just go to the Chicago history museum. They could learned more stuff about Chicago that they thought they knew. But the history of Chicago is really important and should not be closed to the people of Chicago.
ReplyDeleteI like your point, Kevin. I'd love to hear more about it. So, there are things that made the city the way it is. But don't we all just know that? Why have a museum? Can't we just find all of that in a history book? Give me more here.
ReplyDeleteNew question: The best arguments involve experience. USE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE--You've been there! What was valuable from your personal experience at the museum? What did you see that stuck with you?
ReplyDeleteIf you were to recommend a friend to ONE exhibit, which one should they go to and why?
ReplyDeleteEdBell- If you were a resident of Chicago how would you feel if they tore down the museum tomorrow?
ReplyDelete1.You can learn A lot from the Museum.
ReplyDelete2.Some things make up the city from back...then.
3.Important artifact's would be a reason I guess.
4.Because even when you think there's no reason for something out of losing money you might just realize there's still use.
If the Chicago History Museum was closed we would lose our history that made our city. Tourists would not have anywhere to go if they did want to know about the Chicago. Why would they want to be in a place they don't even know much about? The importance of the Chicago History Museum is that it holds valuable information. It tells us when everything we know now all started or how it became to be. Everything in Chicago is full of wonders and questions that need to be answered. The museum is just the place to find the answers to all your questions that make you so curious. Just as, if you say your a die heart White Sox fan where would you go to see how it all started? Sure, there's the internet, but your most reliable source would be the Chicago History Museum. If the were to ever close down until further notice Chicago would lose its importance to its history.
ReplyDeleteBravo, Patti. This is the kind of response that demonstrates critical thought and writing. Well done! Ted, great questions! Keep it up guys!
ReplyDeleteThe importance of the money is nowhere near the importance of the Chicago History Museum. If the museum was shut down forever, future generations would lose so much information. Sure, people can get their information on the internet, but its just no the same. The only reason that it's important is that many people grew-up with this Museum, and would hate to see it go. We're Chicago, and we are here to stay no matter what.
ReplyDeleteI would put up the money to keep the Chicago History Museum because they are somethings that made this city the way it is right now. Like the Great Fire Of Chicago and that is a big thing about the city.I think that some people could learn something about the city of Chicago. And it would not be good if the Museum would close down.
ReplyDeleteThe importance of this museum is that it is fun for the whole family. I have gone there a lot of time as a kid and I have had lot of fun I have learned a lot there. I think that if they close the museum the public will be losing a lot on the shaping of the young minds.
ReplyDeleteFrom my personal experience at the museum the thing that was valuable the most in my opinion was just seeing everything and learning a little from every exhibit. The thing that struck me the most was learning about what really happened in the Great Chicago Fire. I have always thought that Ms.Cathrine O'Leary's cow started the fire cause that's what I have always read in the research I have done.
ReplyDeleteThe Chicago History Museum is important because its fun and its also good to learn about your city. If the museum closes down people who come visit the city(tourist) and want to see how Chicago was back then they wont have a place to go to go see how Chicago was back then. I don't think its worth the money to close down the museum. This museum tought us a lot about Chicago and to see it go away, its not worth it just for the budget cut.
ReplyDeleteAl Capone- Love your opening sentence. I couldnt agree with you more. There are many things that would be lost forever if the museum were to close. We can read about history in a book, but tehre is something to be said for being able to touch and see objects and artifacts from history.
ReplyDeleteIf I was to tell a friend to go to the museum I would tell him to go see all the gun's that they used back in the day. because I think that is so cool to know about the gun's they used and how they got to kill so many people. and it's nice to know about the gun's history too.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend the exhibit "my China town". I would recommend this because I like learning about other cultures besides my own. I found the exhibit exciting, and learned more about china down. It's fun to see different cultures besides the ones I'm familiar with.
ReplyDeleteMs.Hughes- I'm probably the only person that would say that she liked seeing the time-line. There were so many events that happened in dates that I recognize and it was interesting for me to see these historical events that happened on those dates.
ReplyDeleteI was no able to see the china one. But my favorite one was the one when you walk in you see the nice train.
ReplyDeleteEdBell- What would you recommend next if they took out the exhibit with guns? or killing people at all?
ReplyDeleteIf I were to recommend a friend to one exhibit, the exhibit would probably be the disaster part of the Museum. The main reason I would choose that exhibit is because it shows many things about our city. It shows how we can suffer great tragedy's and hardtimes yet we can still bounce back from them. Also because my friends are really interested in the hardtimes of any city.
ReplyDeleteThe exhibit I would recommend a friend to go see if the big time line next the the train. It explained everything from the 1600's to almost the 1900's. I read somethings that I didn't even know about, like the disaster on the East land. I think that would be the exhibit I would recommend a friend to go see at the Chicago History Museum.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite part of the museum, There's more fun when you take It all In as a whole. If anything I'd recommend just to go to the museum In general.Anything you do or see there especially with some friend's should be exciting.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend the exhibit with the sport teams and when they were created. Also is fun to learn about your hometown teams to know how good they "used" to be back then!
ReplyDeletethe old train one.
