The expression unspeakable literally means "not to be spoken." In the second half of
Our America, the boys examine a crime that is labeled by many within their community and within the nation as truly heinous (horrible, awful). What do you think the most unspeakable crime is? What is the worst thing a person can do?
I think the most unspeakable crime is stealing. Just like the quote from the kite runner" any other crime is another form of stealing". Like when you kill some one your stealing their right to live or when you kidnap some ones child you steal the parents right to a child or children. This is what I think the most terrible crime there is.
ReplyDeleteI think the worst thing a person could do is kidnap a some kids to get some money. And another thing is that i would steal from a store and bet the person that works there. That's what i think a worst thing a person could do.
ReplyDeleteI love the reference to Kite Runner. What if you kill someone who is trying to kill you? Still terrible? Is there ever a "just" murder?
ReplyDeleteSomeone that kills people because they just want to kill for fun. Because sometimes they are like sick or have something in their brain or something like that but they kill because they think it's fun i think.
ReplyDeleteKevin--just to be clear. You wrote "bet" you meant to physically harm or beat, correct? Does it matter if it's a store? What about a robber and a family? Are some stores worse than others to steal from? It's always wrong to steal. But if you are stealing from a local neighborhood owned store...is it worse than a Macy's?
ReplyDeleteTo all...does it matter who commits the crime? Or is the crime always just plain bad. Example: Stealing is wrong. If a small child steals, is it as wrong as a 20 year old?
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing a person can do to me is not telling the truth. I've actually been in situations that a friend has lied to me, and I have confronted them. I don't like when a friend that your supposed to trust end's up lying to you about something. That's the worst thing a person can do to me.
ReplyDeleteI think the most unspeakable crime is murder. Murdering someone is taking somebody's kid, nephew, grandson, or cousin. Theirs never a reason to kill somebody for wearing the wrong colors, being an enemy gang, or just cause you want somebody to feel the pain that you felt when one of your family members got killed.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the first question I think It's pretty obvious. Yes stealing Is a bad crime Vandelism etc. But homicides pretty much the worst. Killing yourself or someone else Is worse than basically anything else.Homicides can fall Into many different thing's and lot's of ways you can do It,But your taking A life which Is never A decision to put In your control.
ReplyDeleteThe worst crime a person can do is take someones child away from them. Whether it would be kidnapped, shot, stabbed, etc. You are taking a child away from its life. Your destroying the parents reason for even living. The people who did these crimes where once kids, they were once an innocent, hopefully happy kid. They must know how it feels to be carefree and have a mom and dad that loved them, or maybe they don't. But taking a child away from the life they still have in front of them is the worst thing you can do. You lived yours whether it was good or bad, now let them live theirs.
ReplyDeletethe most unspeakable crime is to murder of a young child. That is taking a life the has not been spent. If you kill a kid you have to die no questions ask about. It if you take a kid life
ReplyDeleteyou shouldn't get the rest of yours.
Ms.Hughes- If I'd killed some one who tried to kill me, either way a murder is still a murder it's still bad to kill some one. It's still stealing the other person's right to live. I think there is no such thing as "just" murder, the other person might think that killing the person who killed a loved one is considered "just" but it's not.
ReplyDeleteEdBell- what would you do if you were the person with the mental illness and killed people for fun?
ReplyDeleteTed-well put. So under no circumstance is it OK. But do you think there's a sliding scale of bad--some instances where something is less bad?

ReplyDeleteNow as for the worst "thing" you can do, It's all A matter of opinion really. Because I may think the worst thing ever to be done Is stealing a bike from someone, but the person next to me may differ In thinking It's getting your heart broken by someone (just giving an example) that you love.
ReplyDeleteanastacia- you got A point
ReplyDeleteMs.Hughes-Oh yes that's what i meant. And yes it does matter because if someone is going to steal the store and you don't let them and then they take out a gun or something. It's always wrong to steal.
ReplyDeleteIs it wrong to steal if your family is starving?
ReplyDeleteMs. Hughes- like I said before stealing is wrong, no matter how old you or the person is. It's the same crime, but in this society, in the present if a little kid stole some thing they will be put in Juvenal hall, fined, or taken home my the police.
ReplyDeleteNo because a kid does not know what he is getting into. But the man is he knows what he is getting into and what's going to happen to him if police find him.
ReplyDeleteted- That's true.
ReplyDeleteGuys, love the comment Ted just made. Got me thinking...should kids be tried as adults?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteyou should be tried as a kid because they don't know that much and if it was an accident.
ReplyDeleteKids don't know that much? So you think that you dont know the difference between right and wrong?
ReplyDeleteI do think a child should be tried as an adult, they did an Adult crime so they should do the Adult time.
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing you can do to me Is confront me directly for confrontation. Especially If your wrong for why your confronting me. Because I will do something that I wont be proud of and we'll both regret.
ReplyDeleteMs.Hughes- kids don't know that much but they should already know whats right and wrong. If they murdered someone then I think they should get tried as an adult.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think that is has to do with the crime that they committed.
ReplyDeleteLupe- We already answered that question. just saying.
ReplyDeleteted- I think they should not do time because they don't know what they are getting into.
ReplyDeleteI don't think a child should be tried as adults because the child doesn't know what he is doing and know that kid knows what he did was wrong and he or she wont do it again.
ReplyDeletelupe- why did you answer two times
ReplyDeleteI do think I child should be tried as an adult, whoever did that crime so they should pay the punishment for It... the adult punishment.
ReplyDeleteMs.Hughes-A child's brain and the way they think is very different from a grown adults brain and how they think. Children act based on whats around them. Adults are independent they know whats right from wrong since them themselves were once kids. If a child is growing up around violence everyday he/she does not know what their doing is wrong. Unlike, an adult, he/she has already been through that path of right from wrong. So sentencing a child(kid) as an equal to an adult is not really a good way to go. Their still learning, these adults and/or teens already know what their doing.
ReplyDeleteKanye: We all working at different speeds. It's ok if someone is a little behind.
ReplyDeleteKanye- What happen if your brother committed a crime or murdered some one would you want them to be tried as an adult. (assuming that you have a little brother)
