There is a very popular song you may remember from your childhood called "This Land is Your Land." One of the lyrics to the song is "This land is your land. This land is my land...This land was made for you and me." It's a really nice idea. As we know, though, that is not how it worked.
As we learned yesterday, the history books tell us that the first people in the area now called Chicago were Joliet and Marquette who were exploring. What about the native people who already lived here?
How did Native Americans respond to the new settlers in the "Chicago" area? If you were a Native American living at the time, would you have coexisted peacefully seeing the benefit of sharing your land? Or would you have violently fight back?
Well knowing me I would have fought. I feel its not fair to just come on someones land and soil like this. Then again though,If I thought about It It would be fair as long as they never settled there.
ReplyDeleteThere's Lupe
I feel like i would've fought back to. I think that it's not fair that you own something and someone comes out of no where and just takes it because they feel like it.
ReplyDeleteI think I would've fought back also. I feel like you need to fight for something you own when its getting taken away from you because people just feel like taking it from you!!
ReplyDeletekanye west- Yes... yes indeed
ReplyDeleteI would of fight for what is my and what i worked really hard keeping it going.
ReplyDeleteI would have fought because no one the owns a land would let it go they would fight back to keep their land. And not let anyone just take it.
ReplyDeleteIf i was a Native-American I would have fought back ass well, it's my land you have no business to take over my land. I would have done it more sneakily though. First off, I will tell them how I feel about them taking over our land and if they insist of keep taking the land then I will have to attack them and possibly kill some of their settlers. That is how I will solve that problem.
ReplyDeleteSo, all of you would have fought back.Did we have any right to this land? Are we all just robbers, in essence, who have stolen someone else's property. Should be give it back? Pay retribution? (money to make up for it)
ReplyDeleteI would've fought back. Knowing that people are coming over trying to take over your land, it comes naturally to fight back. It's almost like if someone new coming into your house trying to change things around, your first instinct would be to get that person out,and that's what the Natives were trying to do.I would have done the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThe Native Americans didn't respond well to the settlers in the "Chicago" area. They didn't hesitate to fight the settlers off of the land. If I was in that position, I would have fought back. These explorers have no right to take what was mine.
ReplyDeleteno we should not give it back we won it so it ours now.
ReplyDeletePatti Smith you right.
ReplyDeletems.Hughes- i think we're robbers but I don't think we should make up the money now I say it's already to late for that.
