The population of Chicago boomed between 1837, when it became a city and 1848 when the railroad was built. In fact, it is cited as one of the fastest population booms in history!
1. Why do you think this happened? What allowed people to come to the area? Why might they have wanted to come to the area?
2. Imagine our school. If all of a sudden 500 more kids showed up and moved into class--what would happen?
3. Think about question 2. How do you think that impacts a city? What good and bad things might have happened as a result?
Back then Chicago wasn't even a city so of course it was going to be a big deal if it was announced a city. Then with the railroad being built there was going to be an oblivious increase in resident acknowledging.
ReplyDeleteLupe. I like where your head is at. What do you mean by the railroad would incerase the population? Why? Can someone tell me how people were getting around at this time? Why would railroads help people to move here?
ReplyDelete1. I think happened because of the Dear Born getting rebuilt and the railroad opening. They wanted to come to the area beacause of the fur that was getting sold in chicago by Point du Sable.
ReplyDelete2. If 500 more kids showed up to our school we would need alot more space because our classrooms are not that big wich would only fit about 35 to 40 students.
3. It impacts the city because it would give us more population.
LUPE'S ANSWER'S to # 1
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I think this sudden notice of a city was partly because of the campain and partly because anything new is like a toy to us. Anytime anyone's acknowledged about something new everyone runs to see whats going on that's how everything everywhere gets noticed.
railroads are simply an easy way around faster than really anything
ReplyDeleteLUPE'S ANSWER'S to #2
ReplyDeleteAnything and everything could happen, but that's the way it is all the time nothing has to change if 500 more students show up as long as everyone is doing what their here for there still wont be a problem.
Kanye-think deeper. So there are 500 more kids...but let'
ReplyDeletes say we dont change the building. We didnt expect them! What would happen to the building? The bathrooms? The books? The classrooms? The hallways? What would we need to do?
1. I think that happened because people were so amazed about a new city. They probably wanted to come to the area because they wanted to see if the city was a good place.
ReplyDelete2. I think that it would be really hard for students to actually focus more in class i know that when there's already a class of almost 20 or 30, I cant focus on what I'm doing and what i need to do.
3. I think that would impact a city a lot because the city is already crowded as it is, and for more people to come it would be very difficult. Also if those people want to get a job it's practically going to be impossible because people are already losing their jobs so how are those people going to be able to find a job, get money, and put food on the table. It's going to be hard. It would be kind of good for the city because people will think that our city is popular cause we have more people living here.
I think that the railroads were really important and would increase the population because people would start coming to Chicago to stay and wait for the train to come and would make Chicago population increase.
ReplyDeleteLupe. Need to disagree. SO we have 500 more kids. We dont have lunch, enough books, computers, supplies! How would that change our building? Our space?
ReplyDelete1. I say that the thing that happen was more people came to the land and they used the land's resources for money and trade that almost every one wanted to come to Chicago. The only thing that people like more than land was money so that's probably the main reason why so many people came to Chicago in the first place.
ReplyDelete2. If 500 more kids sowed up in our school there wouldn't be enough room to fit them all, we would have to expand our school greatly. Also because of funding the prices would have to be higher in order to expand the school.
3. I think the good things might be more businesses, more money coming in, and people get paid a decent amount of money. Then the bad things are possibly, the prices are higher, some people might buys other people's homes then they end up displaced or have to move because the population is too high. That's how I think the city might become impact.
Ted, you hit the nail on the head! Everything has to expand rapidly! If we suddenly had 500 more kids, we wouldnt have time to plan. Do you think the plans we make will be good ones? Lasting ones?
ReplyDeleteLUPE'S ON A ROLL # 3
ReplyDeleteYou see the effects on a city would vary. There's always going to be something wrong. Not anything LUPE cant fix joking but seriously, Impactful things come at us everyday and we always have to find a way to adjust or fix them. Maybe we'd have to work together and cooperate to clean up a mess made by thousands but anythings possible.

ReplyDelete1.they saw something that could of help then to do much better in life
ReplyDelete2.I thing their would be a lot of people in here and i would not like it.
3.because their would be to much people and would not fit in this city so yea.
ms. Hughes- I think the plans that we make wont be good one's, but affective one's. I'm not completely sure about lasting one's though, I might have to say some of the students might move because the school is over populated.
ReplyDelete1.This happened because they built a railroad. They made Chicago a city and for that they made it known to many people. I think what allowed many people to come to Chicago would be the "gossip." Once one person hears about something new they have to tell someone.I think that many wanted to come to Chicago because they thought coming to the city would make their lives easier, then what they were.
ReplyDelete2.If 500 more kids came into our school, we would have ti expand the school. We can barely get through the hall ways as one freshman class. Therefore, we would be over populated and our classes would be larger then now. We wont get as much learning into our day as we normally would.
3.This impacts a city by everything. Its jobs, housing, and finical. I mean with more people there are more voices to be heard, but at the same time with so many people can come with bad intentions.
Ted- Not true! look at lane tech that school has over 1000 people! just cus there's more people in a school they wont leave. Its on wat the school has and what they can afford and support the students!
ReplyDelete1. I think that the population boomed because of one thing and one thing only. It was the railroad system that helped increase the population. Maybe the reason people wanted to come was that there was an easy access to water in Chicago.
ReplyDelete2. If this school were to increase by 500 kids, it would get tighter then it already is. We might even have to expand classrooms. Lets just hope this doesn't happen.
3. I think that due to the increase in children it would damage a city badly.
