In mythology, the Pheonix is a bird that rises from the ashes. It cannot be killed or crushed. It simply puts itself back together again. After the Great Chicago Fire, there was an attitude that Chicago would just come back bigger and better. One Historian said, "We are the city that believes. We just bounce right back."
Think of Chicago today, as you know it. Do you think this is true? Are we the city that cannot be kept down? Do we simply rise above conflict and problems? Be sure to explain yourself.

ReplyDeleteBack then I think that other cities might have helped us to over come our city's problem and that's how we bounced back up.I kind of don't think that we rise up today, because our city has had a lot of problems and yet we still have the same problem right now.
ReplyDeleteAnything and anyone can be kept down It's not a matter of It being true,When the great Chicago fire past we had the heart and dedication to bring It back and pull It together.Even then though there was blame to be passed around about the fire,so It's all about how much you care In the end.Today to be honest most of us cant even walk down the street without having to worry about gang influence or being caught In gang rivalry.Back then we cared about our city that's why we came together to rebuild It. Today It's all about us and what we can control, and with selfishness and jealousy in affect It's hard to do what we once were able to do In critical circumstances back then.
ReplyDelete1.I think that this is true because lots of people did not say that there was no hope in redoing the whole city. But other people said what are we going to to do when there is no money to redo all this houses and stores.

ReplyDeleteI do think it's true that we are the city that believes and we will bounce back some day. I in fact do believe that we are the city that cannot be kept down, but I'm not sure about rising above problems. I beginning to suspect that Chicago is becoming more and more dangerous. I seen mugging in the streets, heard gun shots, and about every week at least 1-4 people died in that week alone. I have no idea how Chicago is going to rise above this one, but some day Chicago will become peaceful once more.

I really dont know when the city is down or up, I just know that the city of chicago had a tragic experience and ever since that day Chicago has bounced right back up and became the city that we are now. Chicago doesnt really have bad things happen to the city, so they really dont have to worry about bouncing back up being kept down.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if we are that same city the historian was referring to. At that time Chicago lost everything that made it a city. what have we lost rather then money? They lost everything they owned. Therefore, they had to rebuild their city. What living would they make if they have no where to work? The only solution was to rebuild. Chicago as I know it today is just getting tossed around here and there. We as an individual could go through something heartbreaking and bounce right back to our feet, but we did that on our own,not with the city. Today the people in Chicago are the ones bouncing back after debt,house issues,and job problems. The city isn't doing much to help us get back up. Only when they need to.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is true that Chicago is like a Phoenix. No matter what people throw at us, Chicago will always recover when it has devoted residents. Like if the whole city is struggling over one thing or something big, the entire population of Chicago gets involved. We don't just walk right over problems, we try and come up with a solution for them. These reasons are why Chicago is like a phoenix.

If we had lots of problems still, we wouldnt be having these good jobs, or good schools. i think most of our problems were fixed already and theres nothing else we need to do to make the city better or rise back up.
ReplyDeleteAs a city I think we had over come the hard ship and the pay know that the minimum you can pay someone is like $9. Back then you didn't have to pay someone for that week and to me that is missed up doing all that work and not getting pad .Today if you don't pay your workers you might go to jail or some thing like that.
