  1. I think the purpose of this book is to show how bad a neighborhood can really be, and how bad people can suffer. They wanted to tell their story because they wanted to prove that we all live in the same place and that we should try to help those in need.
"This is our neighborhood, this is our city, and this is our America. And we must somehow find a way to help one another. We must come together-no matter what you believe in, no matter how you look-and find some concrete solutions to the problems of the ghetto."

  2. the purpose of this book was to inform people on how bad the projects were back in the days. LeAlan and Lloyd wanted to tell there story because they wanted to tell people that they weren't living as Americans they felt like they were the typical African American that was dumb and just had no future ahead of them."This is our neighborhood, this is our city, and this is our America. And we must somehow find a way to help one another". That quote says that no matter how you look no matter where your from that you should always help each other.

  3. LeAllen and Lloyd told their story because they want you to know how they feel or felt when they were growing up before they started doing the interviewing with people and doing audio diaries. it said: "why am I alive? What is my purpose? And I always can find a reason." Also he says, "What is my reason for being? What is my purpose? What can he tell himself? Theses are the thoughts that go on in my mind and really mesmerizes me."

  4. I think that they wort this book to show
what true "life and death in the Chicago south side" is. Not like in the moves it is worst then the moves. in the Ida B well kids kill other kids. If you look out side you will see some body die in front of your house. If you live there you wold rather live in darkness then live in the Ida B wells.

  6. They wrote this to be heard to,address A problem that never got solved. To attempt to save something that took a group effort.
LeAlan says "an American Is supposed to have life liberty prosperity and happiness. but an African American Is due pain poverty stress and anxiety."Basically their story was to tell not how bad the neighborhood Itself could be but how bad It Is that no one could fix It and most never tried.

  7. Kanye--Something you wrote stood out to me and confused me. Please explain yourself "they weren't living as Americans they felt like they were the typical African American that was dumb and just had no future ahead of them"

I believe you mean that they wanted to say that they were not part of a stereotype. Instead you said "the typical." Clarify, here as that kind of a statement is both damaging and untrue.

  8. I think that the purpose of this story is to let people know that if you live in the ghetto in projects you can find a way out of the projects by going to school and being someone in life "he's just some little n****r from the ghetto that knows big words".

  11. I think the purpose of this book I that LeAlan Jones and Lloyd Newman want to show people that are living there and the people that are living out side the projects. It is a bad neighborhood to be in the Ida B. Wells people getting shoot and people killing "He's just some little nigger from the ghetto that knows some big words" but not all kids are stupid that live in the projects they want to get out a make a life for them self, LeAlan and Lloyd just want to tell you how they live in the projects.

  13. I meant like people that lived outside of the projects felt like these African Americans weren't worth their time to help them if they're just going to keep ruining the Wells!
